My name is Amanda Muri and I teach Spanish 1 and 2 at Shining Rock as well as serving as the English Language Learner instructor. In 1998, I graduated with honors from the Medical College of Georgia with a Bachelor of Science degree in Occupational Therapy. While practicing occupational therapy I began to teach English as a Second Language to adults and fell in love with world language and culture. I took the World Language Praxis exam this summer and will enroll in a residency license program this fall to obtain my Spanish K-12 teaching certificate. I feel very blessed to share my passion for Spanish with the students I teach and to support students who speak a different home language besides English to better access the curriculum.
I am a wife and mother to 3 beautiful children, 2 dogs, a cat and a lizard. Besides teaching, my favorite things to do are spend time with my family, exercise, and spoil my pets. I know first hand how difficult it can be to find balance between work, family and school. Be kind to yourself and follow the same advice we give our kids; just do the best you can do and that is enough.

The Spanish One and Two adopted text is “Exprésate” published by Holt, but it will not be used during instruction. I will provide the textbook in the form of printables which students will organize in their binders. Other resources used for grammar explanations, comprehensible input, and homework are: on-line activities such as, Studyspanish.com, videos and audio files.
